Yerkes Observatory: closed and may become a subdivision

The birthplace of modern astronomy has closed and it's future is about to become mundane.

Interesting read about how soon places become obsolete and expendable.

Wouldn't the light pollution that has developed as the area grows limit the use as an observatory?

Did you read the article? It's being closed precisely because it is no longer useful for research.

It is definitely an historic site, question is whether it will attract enough visitors/donors to sustain itself.
