WWE Friday Night Smackdown Thread: Tribute to the 'Taker Edition

So... this should be an interesting night of rasslin
WWE is dealing with a coronavirus outbreak amongst its ranks... including Mrs. Jon Moxley, Renee Young, who was just in the ring a week ago presenting AJ Styles with the Intercontinental Championship... that seems to have had an effect on Smackdown tonight... but we'll get to that later
The other big ongoing wrestling news story is the continuing effects of the #SpeakingOut movement... which claimed the jobs of 2 more WWE employees today... both who are on the NXT UK brand so I'm sure none of you follow them... but it is what it is... ESPN reported earlier today that both Travis Banks & El Ligero were released from WWE
But in a bigger deal for a smaller promotion... IMPACT Wrestling yesterday announced that it terminated the soon-to-expire contract (June 30) of current IMPACT World Champion Tessa Blanchard and was vacating the IMPACT World Championship. The company cited numerous missed TV appearances (she was stuck in Mexico with her fiance due to travel restrictions) as the reason for releasing her after she failed to send in a video promo for the company to use on TV and the two sides failed to reach an agreement on a new contract.
Now onto tonight's WWE Smackdown preview
The COVID outbreak has pretty much claimed the whole show and there is NOTHING of note being promoted tonight
Literally the only thing being promoted for tonight's show is a Tribute to the Undertaker... who essentially announced his retirement at the end of the 5-part WWE Network special that finished up last Sunday
Part of the Tribute to the Undertaker will be a re-air... in its entirety... of the Boneyard Match from Wrestlemania... which will probably take up at least half of the show
The stuff all promoted last week is right now considered dead... including an Intercontinental Championship match between AJ Styles & Drew Gulak (remember when Styles was right next to Renee Young in the ring last week?), Sheamus having a toast to Christian, and Braun Strowman reacting to Bray Wyatt saying he can raise the dead
So... this should be a fun episode
Get well soon Raylene

Seems like a legit reason

Guess I’ll just be listening to music at the gym tonight.

Might do a trivia question tonight.

not sending in a video promo (which can be taken on a smartphone and WeTransferred/Dropboxed/Google Docs'ed to the production crew) was probably the reason
and I imagine they asked her to do that numerous times and she just didn't
plus reports are that she is not an easy person to work with at all
so the contract about to expire without an agreement on a new one was a perfect reason to just let her go now

Gotta figure she's headed to AEW. They could use the help with BB DDS on the shelf (yet still amusing) and people fed up with the transvestite.

plus... her dad is there
ETA: but the question's gotta be... how will this impact (see what I did there?) her fiance... Daga?
who is an active wrestler on IMPACT

Kayla Braxton and producer Adam Pearce are both also confirmed to have the china virus. Kayla is on her second case.
Tessa is known to be a huge bitch backstage. That's why WWE never signed her. With Becky out for a long time and Charlotte out for a little while, and Vince already giving up on Shayna, I have to wonder if they get desperate and give her a call. She's in no hurry to come back to wrestling but I have to think Blanchard vs Flair at WM is a huge money match just based on the family legacies. She is one of the top women wrestlers in the world right now.

I'm confused...is this virus the same thing as the Kung Flu?

shite... I knew this too... how did I forget to have this in the OP
Adam Pearce isn't just a producer... but apparently he's always out there to be 1 of the "break it up" people during the big fights... so he's obviously very close to a lot of the guys a lot
and Kayla... it's all Miz & Morrison's fault... they had the COVID in the slime they meant to hit Braun with
those bastards

I’d doubt that.

That's according to her. Renee Young tested negative from the WWE test but then got sick and got an outside test that was positive. I wonder if WWE's testing just sucks.

Bleacher Report
quote:
WWE announcer Kayla Braxton deactivated her Twitter account after confirming she tested positive for COVID-19 for a second time.
"It's been an emotionally taxing several weeks so I'm going to take a little hiatus from social media," Braxton originally wrote (h/t Wrestling Inc's Marc Middleton). "In the meantime, be safe. Be healthy. And please, be kind."

the way the story's been told... it's like Renee got exposed and then took the WWE test
but the virus hadn't incubated long enough by that time so that's why it came back negative
then she got sick... and when she lost her sense of taste is when she went and got the other test on her own... which came back positive

Yeah her dad is why I suspected AEW. Also of note is Tony Khan (and the AEW crew) is screwed if this virus causes then to miss even a single episode. TNT has the option to dump them in the deal.
I guess Tessa could go to Japan
