A buddy of mine used to be a cop... when ever he would get a 1st offender (2nd offender in other cases) he would force the driver to call his wife (if married) and explain everything that was happening.... he would wait until the wife got there and would send the dui guy off with his angry wife.

I asked why he did this and he said that generally getting busted by the wife was a much more severe punishment than a first offense dui.
