Would you put up with this at work?

A buddy of mine (we'll call him Joe) works out of town sometimes so if he's on a project, they'll usually house him with some coworkers. So while he's on a job, they put him with this guy. Let's call him Steve. Joe is on the project for a little while and sharing a house with Steve. Joe notices that Steve is a little weird but doesn't think much of it. After a while Steve gets even weirder: leaving at strange times, doesn't talk to Joe, etc.
Fast forward a few weeks. Steve is nowhere to be found and he left the house a complete mess. Like think the worst "mess" you could imagine. Turns out Steve was an addict and having a relapse. They asked Joe to just tidy up Steve's "mess" and keep it hush, basically. Would you be upset if they put you in this situation?

By tidy up do you mean physically clean up, or just handle his work stuff for him and stay hush?

Joe, since the company wants to sweep it under the rug, you should burn the house down to destroy any evidence.

What kind of trash company makes their employees stay with other employees when they travel for work?

Call "Servpro" or a domestic cleaning service. Put it on the company expense card.

I read your book. And Mike was having the same problems as Chad, the stockbroker.

Is this like Fight Club where you were Tyler Durden all along?

It is a shitty situation and I am not sure how I would handle it. First thing though, is that I am not the maid for some damn addict...I would ask if there is a possibility of the company paying for a housekeeper once per week or so.

I'm not covering up illegal drug use. Company can kick rocks.
And to the gentleman who asked about housing with coworkers. My old company would do it occasionally depending on length of project and if we found an affordable rental property.
Weve rented cabins on rivers in the appalachain mountains. Much cheaper than hotel rates. Never had issues with my coworkers. We all cooked cleaned and drank beer.

I have found in life my willingness to put up with any adverse work situation is directly proportionate to my compensation level.
Seems you left that out,
If two ditch diggers? frick em let the employer clean it up, two well compensated pros? take care of it and should have done so prior to even making the call.

I mean I wouldn't "tidy" things up for them. They can hire someone to do that shite. Otherwise I am fine looking the other way. Would be a little skeeved about housing with him, but I guess shite happens.

No. Joe hit the jackpot because he has the option to join in the fun or sue the employer, or both.
It doesn’t matter either way because this didn’t happen.

There’s not a single thing in the OP I would put up with.

I would put up with anything for the right price.

I'd clean up if there was some type of contract that I would be housed alone for the remainder of this trip and any future trips.
