I'm still trying to wrap my head around how this doctor knew this information. He was angry at this woman, who is not her patient, so he took the time to look up her medical record, examine it, conclude she can't have kids and make a snide comment about it? That just seems so far fetched to me.

I'm almost certain OP is using the OT to hash out scams before she tries them IRL to see if they may work or not.

Exactly. On top of trying to actually see all his patients he had the time to do that?

So, has she talked with her MIL about her diarrhea of the mouth as well?

Right. I'm relatively certain that a doctor really only cares about the scheduled patient.

Why should the MIL's doctor be liable for God not wanting your friend to have kids?

The mil doc wasn't even suppose to check my friends medical info, much less say it in front of anyone else. This was an appointment with mil primary care . Doc has never treated my friend nor did she ask doc anything about herself

Yea, it really doesn't make sense. How would he know that this person was going to attend her MIL's appointment, to know to look at her info beforehand? Does he have a personal reason to know the friend before the appointment? I doubt he cares enough about her to go look up her medical record while she is there. It also doesn't make sense that another doctor would discuss this person with this doc and use names, unless they know her personally. There's a lot missing to this story, I think the OP was just testing the OT on their HIPAA knowledge.

As stated by someone else, a complaint can be made to the compliance officer for the facility (if it's large enough to have one) and the audit trail could be viewed to see who accessed the friend's medical record, and when it was accessed.

And with the way things are now in healthcare....he/she likely barely has enough time to see those scheduled patients.

OP....just fess up and say you made this up....your story makes no sense and it's very easy to see the flaws in it

Ok.. The doc shouldn't have said anything, but it's funny how none of the blame is going on the mother in law...whatever the doctor shared could have been confined to the people in the room, however the mil decided to run her mouth... Somehow your friend is putting 100% blame on the doctor and has already sought out legal help... Obviously money isn't controlling this situation...

OP has to be really young, dumb, making this up, or all three. I haven't figured it out yet bc she won't answer my question.

OP is a IRL con artist and is using the OT's opinion to hash out her scams.

Friends doc works at another location in a different town. I guess both docs are using the same program being it is the same company. Mil doc was on computer trying to find dosage of script . . They said the doc was bitching about having to look up her prescription info when he knew what he prescribed . When the idiot realized he wrote the dose wrong he was pissed . After Doc just blurted out my friends medical condition. Friend said doc didn't like being questioned and once he realized he did make the error he got really mad and ugly.

0% chance your friend receives any money for this(obviously that's what she/you're going for)... I still think it's funny the mil hasn't received any blame for this info getting out... Your friend sees dollar signs and will be disappointed..

You really are hammering this thread into the ground.

Don't know what you want out of this thread other than attention at this point.

You have your answer of the option of filing the complaint.
