NO. And The new husband should respect that as well. He should correct my daughters if they do say that.

I disagree depending on age. If your girls are so young that they begin calling him dad because when with the wife he is fulfilling dad duties? You are correcting a child for something they can not wrap their head around. They are just trying to be respectful and in time loving.

By that same token it is wrong to force a kid to call a step "dad".

If your girls are 10-12 say? I'd have a problem with it. But by that age they are doing shite just to piss you off. It is issues with YOU and YOURE children and the divorce and not the new guy.

If your ex is a count, as was mine, and tries to use the kid to get you then I believe you have to go along for the benefit of your child. She did this and much more but now the kid is grown up he sees her for what she is. He loves her but has no respect for her opinions. I ate a ton of shite to be in my kid's life and I'd do it again. I'm proud of my son today.

If I were the "boyfriend" and my girlfriend's child still had a relationship with their father I would not want to be called dad. I would treat the child like my son or daughter, but I think it is kind of strange when a parent gets into a serious relationship and the person they are in a relationship with wants the children to address them as "dad" or "mom".

I remember a friend telling that when her mom remarried, her new husband wanted her and her sister to call him dad and they wouldn't.. Because they still had a close relationship with their dad... who they called daddy. I would think it would be awkward for the kids to have to refer to two different people as "daddy".

My half-brother and half-sister, who are 10 and 11 yrs older than I were young when their dad left. He wasn't involved in their lives much at all until he got older, but my dad raised them and they referred to him as daddy.. It all circumstantial.

Also, I now have two step-kids and they don't call me daddy because I'm not their dad. He's a piece of work but pays his support and hangs around so I try to encourage a relationship.
