C’mon, who puts a down payment on a vehicle, and even if you did... your payment is 1/3 of a weekly paycheck, yet you couldn’t put anything down because you needed the car quick? Dafuq?

I put a little down. Had the cash. Would have put more but I had some medical stuff to take care of and didn't want to dig too far into reserves. I'd just moved into a new apartment and had taken a couple months off. That's alright though. The rest of 2017 was so good I only worked about two and a half months last year and played the rest of the time.

I needed the car because I was working a long way from home and wanted to get my old Suburban back home and get something with a warranty. I had a window between jobs to get a ton of things done.

You're never going to be able to retire.

And just to let you know you don't enough money to be bragging

I've got 20 acres and a house that's paid for. Zero debt besides the car note. I'm putting 3 to 1 into my pension every hour I work. And I stack cash hand over fist.

Hell, I only worked 6 months on 2017 and still added 4 years to my pension.

I'll retire just fine.

But you didn't have cash because you rented a new apartment? Your BS isn't adding up.

And even if this is true, you gross like 150k so don't act like you're some magnate.

I had cash. Didn't want to deplete reserves. Wasn't sure how the medical thing was going to go. Fortunately, it was nothing to worry about and I took a call not long after.

I couldn't imagine buying a car that expensive and not putting something down. I'd like to pay mostly cash for the next one.

You need to comprehend better.

Do you not have insurance? You know exactly how much it could potentially cost. Again, you're story isn't adding up

I think it's foolish to have a note for that long. With that being said:

I believe it's better to pay more for shorter months since you are paying less interest over the course of the loan. $550 isn't much, but neither is an added $100 for each payment. This amortization will help save you on the back end (unless there is a pre payment penalty in your agreement).

What's your interest rate if you don't mind me asking?

I have a deductable. Only a couple thousand, but it was more about unsure about how long I was going to be out of work. I'd been saving just for that contingency.

Cars are way too expensive nowadays. Kia has the nerve to charge over $30k for a sedan

Sorry I wasn't clear. That is not my note. Just an example of one.

Far from it. Just fortunate. I worked hard and put in the and effort in to get to a place where I don't have to work all the time and still have a decent life.

just found out a couple of days ago that my wife’s $680 car note was coming out of both of our accounts for an entire year. Neither of us noticed. Oh well.

I'm a worrier. I never have enough. I always think 'well, what if such and such happens'.

I'm not quite so uptight about it today as I was at that time. Thought I had a serious issue but it wasn't, thankfully. Was just my gallbladder. Had been feeling like royal shite at times and I think the first doctor I went knew what the problem was but was trying to pad the bill. The second guy caught it right away. Immediate ultrasound and in surgery the next day.

I can only imagine the idiots in this thread that don’t understand the opportunity cost of money.

I’d finance a car for 30 years if they’d let me. Much rather have the money and invest it that have it sitting in a car, depreciating in my driveway

Me too. It's why I live far below my means.

So you only worked a couple of months in 2017 because you were doing fun stuff? Again, not adding up.

Or you could pay it off in 5 years and invest the next 25 without owing the bank anything. Short term hit but if you can handle it - I think it’s best.
