This is probably more likely caused by new cars having a bunch of Zero down, no interest type deals, moreso than used cars.

Believe it. I live in the Garden District, work Downtown and frequently am in areas or establishments that serve every socio-economic level in the spectrum. That said, I also tend to take part in a practice called "minding my own goddamn business", so that could be the issue here.

I'm astounded at the amount of nosey arse people on the OT that stand in lines watching what the card looks like that people use to pay for their groceries. It's sad and none of their business.

I personally don't pay attention to it, but to say it is none of their business is very short sided. If I gave you money with for you to purchase something to help your family and you misused it, I would say that was very much my business.
