The best part of this is my kids understand how important it is.
My Dentist cousin says it runs in families. Kinda like every male for 4 generations from my paternal side has periodontal disease and half the women too (Dad was 1 of 9 kids who all had it). And my Oral Surgeon has let a few things slip too since he hunts and fishes with some of my cousins.
So keep after those youngun's!! I watched as my Dad, who grew up without knowing about of this stuff, had to have his teeth pulled and his mandible scraped (yes, his jaw opened up and literal scraping of the bone). He now has a full upper false plate and 2 teeth to anchor lower partial dentures to. Been like that since before he turned 50.

I got an IV and general anesthesia. They gave me Valium to take beforehand

Everyone is different though. Some people's wisdom teeth are deeply impacted.

Sorry you were on Medicaid. My experience was quite pleasant

All 4 of mine we're impacted and had to be cut out. I was awake the whole time. All I felt was a little pressure and that was it. Piece of cake

You want to be put out baw. You will sit in the chair and next thing you no you are in the car home. It is pretty crazy lol. I was hurting for three days then I was good. The only thing that bothered me were the holes in my mouth.

Anyone have any recommendations for oral surgeons around the BR area?

Bump, bc my youngest is going for a consult with the oral surgeon out dentist recommended today. I had mine out as a senior in HS (stupidly scheduled to where I missed Spring testing and had to retake Calculus). I got knocked out, and judging from how bad my jaw hurt, that was a great decision (all 4 badly impacted)

Where has that guy been?
Maybe he succumbed to a snake bite or something, idk.

You don't need to be under general anaesthesia for wisdom teeth. That is major overkill.
I was a surgical assistant for an oral surgeon for 3 years.

I had mine cut out when I was 25. Local anesthetic only. It was no big deal. I was drinking beer that night.
As a bonus, the pain pills were nice.

I've heard tonsils, and oral surgery can be harder for adults vs kids.
My doc told me if I have to have mine removed I should prep for two weeks off of work.
I'm actually stoked if I have to have that surgery.

Got three of four cut out about seven years ago... they didn't put me under because my teeth were already showing out from the gums. I was just doped up while the dentist pulled them out. Could hear the roots popping and everything as he put all his weight on them to loosen them. Blood going down my throat, then I got a couple of bone spurs that came through the gum that made it impossible to talk because they were cutting my tongue.
Needless to say, you want to be out.

Sounds plausible.

I got mine out when I was 18. I was drugged, but awake. You are aware of what they are doing, but you just don't give a shite. It's like
"Oh, that dude just cracked my tooth and yanked it out. I feel blood. Damn I feel good!"
You'll be fine.

I got mine pulled out when I was in elementary school. I'm not sure if I got anesthesia, but I remember getting laughing gas (nitrous oxide). I remember the dental assistant saying, "Breathe in deep and count back from 10." Then I was like 10, 9, out. When I woke up, it felt like only a minute or two passed by. I asked if they started the operation yet and they said they were finished.

I had an broken, infected one and two that needed to be cut out. I was told i would be put under, but when the anesthetic came, I never went out. I was trying to groan to let them know I wasn't out, but they went after it anyway. The amount of pressure they put on my face caused my jaw to cease up for a day and a half..It sucked, but getting it over with felt great.
