Nevermind the fact that you cannot compare the issues of the late 18th and early 19th centuries with those of the 21st.
Just as it is true that you cannot take your present-day ideas and place them in the past, the opposite is also true.
Who the frick told you that?

Of course you can use the lessons of history to better shape the decisions of today.

The fact that there’s even a debate over the brilliance of TJ shows you how fricked we are.

I am not a liberal and love me some Thomas Jefferson, but he absolutely, 100% did not say this or anything really close to this.
It was made up and is just one of those bullshite quotes by famous historical figures that gets spread on facebook memes.

Do you actually know Thomas Jefferson’s personal views of slavery or are you just a fricking idiot?

Alexis de Tocqueville definitely said something very very close to that.

So based on your assertion... any information or data collected from time past is irrelevant because it happened in the past and not in the present? You are of the mind set that our government is smarter than the people who created it?
He’s one of those “the Constitution is a living, breathing document” guys, I guarantee it.

Then why are Republicans of the past 30 years BIG BIG Government and Recklessly Spending without being able to allocate.
Public debt is what they're all about, fool. Having a government program with programs designed to find them is all Democrats are trying to do. To limit this public debt we are being given by the blind sheep we call Republican neighbors.

I don't know what you are saying here. That Monticello is not an authoritative source about Jefferson?
It's highly possible that the Monticello organization (or any organization charged with running a tourist operation) might not choose to be an authoritative source.

Annsthat would be closer to what TJ thought.
Always amusing to see those who think they know history or our founding fathers.
Posted on 7/18/19 at 6:56 pm to MarineVet
There was a reason he was a founding father and today we have people who absolutely hate democracy and sovereignty elected to office.

Teddy Roosevelt was a Republican wasn’t he?

Wonder if there will be this much debate in future generations about quotes like, “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.”???

I care a lot about what he said, actually. And a great number of French philosophers of the time period. Their philosophies helped shape American government.

He did not govern that way at all. You also left out his stint in the Bull Moose (Progressive) Party when he torpedoed the 1912 Republican Party.

Was he Republican President or not?
Someone said earlier that Progressives gave us National Parks and started Conservation. This was done by TR as a Republican.

Yes, they would start an uprising and wage war, they did it once, they would do it again. They were men of conviction and desire to build something never done before.
