As our society has evolved and we’ve become more tolerant of all sorts of deviant behavior, I think it’s become more frequent. When you and I were kids, this sort of shite simply wasn’t tolerated. And that intolerance erected a barrier to limit- maybe not eliminate or prohibit completely- these affairs. But as our society has become more tolerant and lenient, people are more emboldened to do or try taboo behavior.
The urges may be as old as time, but acting on them is a more modern trend.

I think the main issue comes down to one word: access. The internet and now social media has allowed these kinds of teachers to access the kids any time, day or night, in or out of school, etc. Nowadays, they can access these students with little to no effort. They can just sit on their couch at home and message or send/receive pics. And not only that, but they can access lots of potential mates/victims at the same time.
It’s similar to how guys these days are very low effort when it comes to dating girls. All they have to do is throw out lots of fishing lines by sending out some one-liners or dick pics via a social media or dating apps, and if only one responds then it worked. If it doesn’t work, you move onto a new batch and rinse/repeat.
But with teachers, before I assume it was a lot more “dangerous” in terms of getting busted because you had to do all of your chasing and grooming in person. Whereas now you can do it from your phone (and I’d also argue it may even be more effective since you can get a lot more flirty on messages and with pics and whatnot).
That’s how I view it anyway.

It's not just defending them, posters here celebrate it and talk about how much they would have loved banging a teacher at 12. I know the OT has always been a sarcastic space, but I honestly think some actually believe what they're posting.
They point to stuff like physiological differences, emotional differences, etc between boys and girls as a defense.
I honestly think we have a subset of society that has some weird fantasy fetish when they read these stories.
If this teacher was an OT 9.9, you'd see a bunch of high fiving, not guilty posts. It's strange.
