I don't live in an area where named winter storms are an issue, but I wouldn't be surprised if has something to do with insurance companies (similar to named storm deductibles for areas prone to hurricanes).
Hey! Why should those in the southeast have all the "fun"? Let's frick over people who DON'T live in hurricane prone regions by naming snow storms!!!!

Check your homeowners insurance policy. The scam continues as Insurance companies increase deductible for "Named Storms", usually double deductible.
This is the Nat Weather Service suckin' up to Insurance companies and blaming the ole stand by n Global warm...I mean climate change.
