Also Jurassic Park used them to power the island since they were located far from any stable power sources. And diesel generators unless for an emergency would be too costly for the man who spared no expense except cheapening out on a conniving computer programmer.

"Many were tentatively excited about Trump’s pick of Wright, pointing to his deep experience — as head of oilfield services company Liberty Energy — with oil and gas drilling"

DoE's Budget last years was about $52. 46% of that was earmarked for Nuclear defense.....the National Nuclear Security Administration is a agency within the DOE, more or less autonomous, responsible for making and maintaining the nations nuclear arsenal. 17% of that budget went to Environmental Management, another semi autonomous agency within the DOE responsible for managing cold war legacy waste, mostly, in compliance with state environmental protection requirements....they either clean up nuclear waste left in your backyard by the DOE or they try to manage it safely. A pretty important task if, for example, you live anywhere on the planet....the Columbia River and the Hanford site alone is a ticking time bomb that would basically make life untenable along most of the pacific rim in 25 years or so if it were for the DOE Office or Environmental Management or somebody doing the work..17% of that budget goes to the office of science which operates the nations research laboratories and are responsible for most if not all of the technology we enjoy today. None of the techno billionaires today would be what they are without the collective spending at these laboratories...not a single one of them. The ground work R&D was done at Lawrence Livermore and a host of other similar national labs and was a collective effort.

Fossil Energy and Carbon Management....the area of expertise for Mr. Wright, receives .9%....9/10ths of a percent....of that budget. I am certain Mr. Wright is an expert at all things related to the oil patch....I am doubtful that he, like his predecessor appointed in Trump's first term, was aware when appointed that 63% of his responsibilities would be focused on nuclear weapons, either keeping them working or keeping old ones from making the planet uninhabitable, and another 17% would be involved in inventing things like 3d printers and the computer mouse (all products of the DoE Office of Science Labs.). I know oil and gas is sexy as hell to the right but sexier than nuclear missiles and bombs? Really? Has the right really gotten that far up the petroleum industries arse with the kissing and sucking that they are fine with an oil man, brilliant as he no doubt is in the oil patch, being in charge of the nations Nuclear arsenal? That is simply astonishing. I get it, drill baby drill and all that....but surely someone ought to understand some basic physics, no?

The "abiotic oil" ideal isn't total bs and was worth looking 50 years ago. That was done and nothing of commercial interest found.

The oil companies are doing the research and it behooves them to present oil as a limited resource. Their marketing gimmick is the same as diamonds. The oil companies benefit from the public thinking that oil is a scarce limited resource when in reality it’s something that the earth just makes. It’s probably akin to the earth pooping

ETA: only recently has the scam turned on them but I’m not sure why libs think “we might run out” is a good reason to stop using something

There is a decent explanation and history of the "abiotic oil" idea at wikipedia
LINK .

When I first encountered it, the name was the Thomas Gold hypothesis. Japan researched it a lot. Unlike the US where most gov-funded research is published. Japan keeps quiet. According to the hypothesis Japan might actually have commercial hydrocarbon. Which, still does not seem to be the case.

I don't recall major oil companies ever claiming that oil is rare. Rather, oil was "hard to find" and "expensive to produce/ refine/ etc". That pitch was always a mix of truths and lies. For the last 30+ years technology has erased much of the "hard to find" claim. Big oil knows where enough oil is and has a good handle of the costs of production. They want it to flow to the consumer at a rate that assures a nice return above expenses. "Drill Baby Drill" which might upset the rate is probably not a welcome slogan in the board rooms of Shell (Dutch), BP (British), TotalE (France), etc. An interesting exercise is checking on how many oil leases in the Gulf are wholly or partly owned by multinational oil companies.

I feel like you’re agreeing with me you just don’t realize it

When you explain abiotic oil theory and all you get is that Carboniferous stare

ETA: I feel like God wouldn’t make the perfect resource for us and not make enough of it. You can really tell who his favorite people are. Lots of oil in America, Russia, etc. no oil in China, Israel France etc

And you notice how oil didn’t show up until the Protestant reformation?

China, Israel France

Update:

China - Daqing Oil Field on land & expanding South China Sea oil fields

Israel - SE Med Leviathan and adjacent prospects massive gas play.

France - poor France. I haven't counted Total's direct or indirect lease holdings in Gulf lately... probably healthy.

No disagreement, just that more accurate details sometime refine ideas.
