Why no "caller ID" for cellphones?

Why has this not happened? It was a big deal when it first came out for landlines. You were able to actually see who was calling you instead of just having to pick up blindly.
Even now, when someone calls a landline, it usually shows a number and a name associated with that number. But on incoming cellphone calls, it only shows a number.

I'm not looking to get something on my phone that allows this. Just curious why it's never been something standard with all phones.

I don't think you understand how the old caller id system worked with landlines and how it won't work today.
