White flight is an overly broad term and really dismissive of what is really going on.
People with means moved to the suburbs. Some because of race - sure. A lot in order to, say, have a nice yard, take care of things like shopping more conveniently, and lower home-ownership costs.

It's not necessarily flight from black people. It's a socioeconomic flight. People who work hard and want to live in a nice neighborhood will leave when property values drop. Doesn't matter what color the people are that move in. If trashy people moved in next to me and I couldn't fix the situation, I'd move while my property still had some value.
