Yea, that's because the house they owned was a 2BR/1BA 900 sq ft house.

Right, kids these days are "too good" to live in such.

My first house was 1300 sq ft and cost about $120k. It was 20 miles outside of the city and I commuted to work. My wife just had our twins and didn't work at the time so we had one income. People act like this can't be done today.

Yep. They believe they should graduate college and have their parents standard of living. It don't work that way.

Gen X

Came into the party at the beginning of the boom. Got educated with paper and pen, entered the workforce automated. So GenX probably suffers the most social anxiety from the constant need instant access work environment.

The generations are too broad. Gen X mostly designed the automation and technology that you are referring to.

Those in the tech field, not the general population of said generation

I've often wondered just what happened to the starter home. My first house was 1100 square feet. 3 BR, 1.5BT. No carpet, no dishwasher, no covered patio, single carport. I paid $18k and sold it 15 years later for $45k. Today's have granite countertops, crown molding, track lighting, etc. and can't be touched for less than $200k. No wonder so many young people say they can't afford to buy a house. They want everything now.

You are asking the right questions. But you'll get downvotes from the many free market warriors -- you know, the guys who will claim they did everything on their own, pulled themselves up by their bootstraps, etc. ad nauseum.

I attended LSU in the late 70s/early 80s. Tuition was like $270 a semester. What is it now?

Truth of the matter is, it is much harder for today's generation to pay for a college education, and to use their degree to get a job. Plenty of blame to go around, but it's not "the nanny state," or the "safe zone" culture, as the free market warriors blather about (you know, those guys who always stand on their own two feet, but oh by the way, where's my Road Home check?)

Trickle down economics is utter bullshite. Always has been, always will. Tax cuts for the wealthy are utter bullshite policy. Doesn't work.
