Why is the term "Jews" considered both the acceptable label as well as a slur for a group of people? Polak is the Polish equivalent of the word "Pole", which is used to identify Polish people, yet it is also deemed a derogatory term.

Paddy is derogatory for irish, yet we still call em paddy wagons.

I will say this again. It's just words. People get too hung up on shite. Get offended by some dumb shite.

I've never referred to an English or French friend as "Englishmen" or "Frenchmen". It is just jarring. He's fricking English, not Englishman. Really, who uses that term? What's next? Germanman?

I agree sort of. But english men would use the term. Yes they would say, im english, scottish, irish. Or they might say, I crossed the channel with my englishmen.

Think about it, they werent saying, my english buddies, my english friends, my enlgish comrades. It's my countrymen, Englishmen.

Chineseman would be the comparable term.

This exactly. The OP compared the wrong terms. No one else seems to notice that in this entire thread.

"China man" is the offensive term, and likewise no one uses the terms "England man" or "France man."

"Chinese man" is not offensive, nor is "English man" or "French man." [/thread]
