There was a guy in the Old Testament that was killed by God for pulling out.

I'm not making that up.

A “young boy” in-charge of downloading hymns from the internet and careless proofreading by others, had led to a Sri Lankan Catholic hymn book including in its list, American rapper Tupac Shakur’s obscene and vitriolic “Hail Mary” instead of the traditional Catholic prayer of the same name.

Instead of the familiar “Hail Mary, full of grace. Our Lord is with you…” the audience was invited to sing: “…Mama told me never stop until I bust a nut. F—- the world if they can’t adjust, it’s just as well, Hail Mary.”

When you stop and think, the message really isn't that different.

Some BS about a condom or birth control interferes with some kind of holy cycle of love that between a husband and wife. At least that’s what I could determine from the retreat we were required to go to. Natural Family Planning was actually educational for timing purposes when trying to get pregnant.

Bi. I always new dolphins were ghey. And they ain't the sharpest tool in the shed either talking with that damn pitchy voice that'd make King Diamond blush and unable to fight there way out of a wet tuna net.

Dolphins suck and should not be used as standard by which humans are to live. They piss and crap where they eat and live. At least we use toilets to get it out of our houses. And I haven't seen one dolphin able to solve a Rubik's Cube. Not one. I am not sold on their intelligence or being some sort of alien life form at all.

And chicks with the crystal dolphins hanging from the rear view mirror, don't even get me started.

They are also against in vitro.

It comes down to embryos.

Condoms are a sin because it effectivwly makes one of God's first commands be fruitful and multiple impossible as it doesn't allow the joining of an egg and sperm.

BC doesn't allow implantation of an embryo.

And in vitro involves the destruction if embryos.

So it's consistent.

That is a slightly pessimistic way to view it.

Religions like the Catholic Church are, by an large, very big on precedent. They take an extraordinary amount of time to make changes. When someone comes along and makes rapid changes, they're largely despised (Pope Francis).

Right or wrong, that's how they tend to work. WikiTiger's explanation above is a good one.

Humans are the only animals who have sex for pleasure. Before there was birth control, I am sure that's why people had big families.. 8-9+ kids..

Errrr...well sorta.

Kids were worker bees on the farm, the shop or small industry. In addition, the mortality rate was much lower then so not all the kids even made it past the first year. Safety in numbers.

The Catholic Church actually doesn’t do it because of research they believed that birth control would lead to more premarital sex and the sexualization of women...well they weren’t wrong.

There are some very deep ideas regarding this that are often difficult to convey, and thus they are often misunderstood by many, and/or used by others to denigrate religions.

First off, understand that religion is our path to civilization. It is the rules that religions codified that have allowed us as a species to develop and continue to get better.

Among those rules was the idea that we need to procreate prolifically in order to grow the species. This point is lost on modern peoples because we don't understand truly how hard life is. Disease, warfare, animal attacks, etc all contributed to high death rates for most of human history. Modern medical technology, as well as better knowledge about how the world works (e.g. germ theory) have allowed us to make life much, much easier.

But for almost all of human history, the need to procreate prolifically was literally necessary for the survival of the species.

Framing it like that, you can see why things like birth control was frowned upon. In addition, you can see why things like masturbation was also frowned upon.

These religious rules were developed to encourage people to do the right thing.

Another point to consider is that to sin is literally "to miss the mark." A sin is simply when a person fails to live up to the ideal. We should all strive for the ideal, but we are all human and we will all miss the mark regularly.

I understand all of this..

When it comes to discussing serious issues on here, I have a bad habit of not wording exactly what I mean, in away that represents what I am really trying to say.. My topic is kind of broad, but factoring in what you posted, I should ask "why are some religions against evolving to fit modern times?".

For example, the whole gay thing. We now know that people don't decide to become gay. It's part of their makeup, yet many religions do not accept them.

I don't see how this is a sin when God doesn't give everyone the ability to

Genesis 38:3-10

I be damn..

quote:

Genesis 38:3-10 New International Version (NIV) 3 she became pregnant and gave birth to a son, who was named Er. 4 She conceived again and gave birth to a son and named him Onan. 5 She gave birth to still another son and named him Shelah. It was at Kezib that she gave birth to him. 6 Judah got a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar. 7 But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death. 8 Then Judah said to Onan, “Sleep with your brother’s wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to raise up offspring for your brother.” 9 But Onan knew that the child would not be his; so whenever he slept with his brother’s wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from providing offspring for his brother. 10 What he did was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death also.

Who knew Onan spilled his semen on the ground?
