I get that some people just love it, and if the spouse is a weak/poor driver it's a safety issue, but otherwise, who cares?

This. It's pretty weird for some folks to get so rustled about what other people do that doesn't affect them. The idea that it's the "man's duty" to drive is outdated and frankly pretty insecure. Sounds like they're threatened that most women can drive just as well as they can and they don't want to give up some sense of power they have in the relationship.

Not only does it not matter who drives, but there's plenty of good reasons, such as:
- Wife is DD so husband can drink
- It's a long arse road trip and the husband is exhausted and needs a break
- Wife's car is tiny and it's more comfortable/safer for her to drive it than the husband who's knees are banging the steering wheel
- Husband has a conference call or some work shite he needs to get done during the drive
- Husband is being dragged to some event at the in-laws so wife drives so husband can at least stream a football game on the way
- Wife is dropping husband off at the airport for a trip
- Husband is sick or being driven home from surgery

There's a million reasons. Get with the times, guys. Must be exhausting thinking you're the only competent one in the relationship. Maybe you chose your spouse poorly. But yeah, just go ahead judging other folks and calling them beta because they don't conform to your arbitrary and archaic definition of what a man is

Anyone who thinks that it’s a beta move to have the wife drive is an insecure idiot.

I drive probably 75% of the time, but on some trips my wife and I will split driving (I drive there, she drives back). It is nice to just ride every now and then.

he is acting like it with this weak "get off my lawn" moment.

What does he have against letting your wife drive.

Maybe the dad just got done driving a long stretch and just needed an hour or 2 to relax.
