They keep themselves looking good not for them and not for you but in the hopes that they will get someone better than you.

Love starts with the self. If you don't respect/Love yourself it will hurt your ability to do so for others. The quote itself is pretty silly rubbish, but that idea at its root is valid enough.

Also, women are competitive and catty with each other. They look good so they look good to other women who judge them on how good they look.
