Honestly the only reason is that there are a few types of elite jobs you can only get with an Ivy League degree. Working in a presidential administration in DC, a major international law firm, and there are a few others maybe in high finance.

Otherwise, skip the snow and the protestors. Go to an SEC school that has a good department in your field of study.

I think the connections are gradually getting watered down by DEI in admissions. I bet the "network" isn't what it used to be.

A minority in my highschool class went to Harvard, and it was a fairly obvious DEI situation. Smart enough girl, but by no means Ivy League caliber. This was 30 years ago. Now she is a fitness instructor. Anecdotal yes, but I bet there's more out there like that.

The only advantage Ivies have is the ingrained, cliquish networks of elite alumni.
Which is the obvious answer to OP's question.

Harvard undergrad is largely meaningless. The attraction is the graduate level schools. That's why people who can go. Harvard Law, Harvard Business, school of Govt....etc. Connections. Same holds true for Yale (Law), Columbia and Penn(Business), for example.
