Taking pride in downvotes is like women who are proud of themselves for being a bitch, or guys that take pride in being assholes.
They're usually just semi-ignorant people that can't handle being corrected so they try to own it.
My pappy always told me, if someone tells you that they're a bitch or an a-hole, believe them. Stay away.
