Changing times.

In the past it was common to do most things in your front yard so your neighbors could join. There is a reason you see porches on old houses.

Nowdays folks do stuff in the backyard so folks can come over and neighbors are excluded.

Modern people problems I suppose.

This was much more common for white people in rural areas when I was growing up. People were more neighborly then.

Funny story.


One of my neighbors just added an area to his front yard where you can sit and hang out. They don't grill, but sit in the front yard in the evenings and have a drink. He has met more neighbors this way than any other. The front yard is a great place to meet neighbors and hang out. The backyard is more private.

It's normally done in my backyard, but we had an event here once in which it was done in the front yard.
