It is a shame. The public looks down on smokers as if they are methheads or rich white guys. No respect.
Smokers gave up their freedoms too early. If they had held out another decade they could have been "victims" and received special treatment like all of the fat people, non-hetero people, illegals, and poors that fill up this country.

Why do people eat processed foods ? They cause cancer.
Why do people fill up their homes with cheap building materials? They cause cancer.
Why do people use sunscreen? The majority of them are filled with chemicals that cause cancer.
Why do people allow pesticides to be used on their foods? They cause cancer.
Why do people eat chicken purchased from a store? The FDA admitted there's arsenic in just about all chicken sold in the US. I'm sure that causes cancer.

I preach to the youngsters who light up but older people did the same with me and it didn't work. It's really the only nasty habit that I have and hate it. Why? Well, I'm addicted and life to me without a pack of smokes scares me. I use it as a crutch, to relax, and just flat out enjoy it. That's the worse part, actually enjoying it I mean. I have 2 little ones that I'm fighting tooth and nail to stop for. If it weren't for them quiting wouldn't cross my mind. I think kids start the same way that I started. When your young and you smoke one it gives the same buzz as would a 6 pack of beer. It's fun and easy to sneak behind mom and dads back. Then before you know it the thrill is gone and your just addicted.

Same reason they:
Drink
Eat fast food
Use plastic
Don't exercise
Abuse prescription meds
Have unprotected sex

Both of my parents smoked (they have both thankfully quit.) None of us three kids ever had any desire to take it up. I dipped for a while, and enjoyed it, but it tore up my gums and I quit. A few mild cravings, but it wasn't that difficult.

Because across the world over 50 percent of people don't have that half a brain.
Why do people weigh 400 pounds? Clearly not healthy.
Why do people think a criminal dieing in a struggle he created with the police allows them to steal, destroy property and injure others?
Why do people condone those thuggish actions and make every excuse?
Why do we have countries hell bent on destruction of others, also ensuring their own destruction?
Simply people don't have that half of a brain you were asking about

I'll pick up a pack when work gets stressful. I'd say over the last year, it probably averaged about a pack a month (which is a lot for me). It's a coping mechanism and a good way to blow off steam after working on a spreadsheet or something tedious for an hour straight. Been a few months since I've done it. I've never had an addictive craving. Its more of a I'm tired of doing this, I'm going grab a cig. I have no idea how people smoke close to a pack a day. I feel like an ash tray if I smoke 10 in a day.

Why don't people in 2015 just mind their own business?

It's not rocket science. Smoking causes cancer, heart disease and is expensive to boot. Why would anyone with half a brain light up?
Because they stupid

A lot of it is regional. I don't know many people at all that smoke, but when I go back to the 'south' it's still pretty widespread. Prob a product of being uneducated or slow to catch up to the real world or a lazy habit of boredom.

I always question the intelligence of anyone under the age of 40 that smokes.

Cause it's addicting.
You know what else causes cancer and heart disease?
Life.

Enjoy being on oxygen with your tracheotomy.

Personally, I'd rather smoke, get cancer and die than eat fricking junk all the time, become a giant, disgusting fat arse and live with diabetes as people make fun of me as I ride my scooter around wal mart.
Not saying I disagree but it's funny how you put it as if these are the only 2 options in life

If you can keep it at 1-3 a day long term it will help your health long term but for 99% of smokers that isn't happening.
Was there a study done that proves this or are you just guessing?
I started smoking when I drink a few years ago (Not really sure why).
When I'm not drinking smoking looks disgusting to me.
