Why do old men hang out at the nearby gas station?

There’s a guy I see every morning sipping his coffee at the gas station I visit every morning on the way to work. It never fails. He’s either leaning against the ATM or the newspaper bin. Then I get off work, and he’s still there. People watching.
He’s not the only one I’ve seen do this in the past either. Why not just go to the local Waffle House or McDonalds for the free senior coffee deal?

Perhaps he is lonely. Instead of making fun of him behind his back on and anonymous message board, perhaps you can brighten up his life a little bit and say hi!

exactly...old people do get very lonely and this kind of thing is just a little something social like fishing or anything else.
