So, blacks have embraced as role models: actors, rappers, athletes, criminals, and failed revolutionaries.
And you're surprised that this hasn't worked out for them?

The blacks of the rural South in the sharecropper culture at the turn of the century (1880-1930) had the following traits relative to their counterparts today:
Higher functional literacy
Much higher marriage rates
Better health
Better diet
Less incidents of violent death
Lower rates of incarceration
Lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, and STDs
Stronger family units
Greater chance of moving into a higher socioeconomic class
Since the Great Society of the 1960s, black lives in America have deteriorated in almost every measurable way. And it's a white dominated Federal govt that not only invented those programs, but continue to perpetuate them to this day.
If the blacks want to be angry about anything the whites have done, they ought to be furious with the entitlement programs we've saddled on them.

I'm not questioning this, but can you provide something to back it up? I'd love to drop a little knowledge on some of my friends. But, I need more to back it up than "I saw it on TD"

I saw the work ethic of the black man before the '60s. It was good. I could be politically correct and discuss the differences between the races. It would be fruitless because the above quote is soooo correct. The actions of the gov't has had such a negative effect on the black community and society in general. It skews the situation so far from what it would be if people had to work in order to eat.

I wrote my American History thesis on this in 1993. It was a 35-page paper. I did all of the original academic research myself, pre-internet. I've got a box in my attic with the paper and all of my notes. That's about the best I can do.
But some of this stuff you can look up. Like, I remember that in 1900, the percentage of blacks in the rural South born to married or two parent households was above 90%. Now it's below 30%.
They ate a very basic, very healthy diet. Lots of home grown vegetables and lean meat. They didn't smoke, because they couldn't afford it. Almost none of them were obese. Diabetes was unheard of.
I explored one sharecropper family in detail. The couple was married in 1918 and had 13 children born between 1920 and 1940. Those kids did great. Two of them became college professors. Several moved to Chicago and Indianapolis and got jobs in manufacturing. They bought houses and cars. None of them died violently. None of them were incarcerated.
But THEIR children (about 35 of them) were a disaster. Born in the late 40s through the 60s. None finished college. Of the 14 males, 3 were murdered and 4 went to the penitentiary. Less than half ever married. Statistically speaking, they lived shorter lives than their parents.
Their lives were shorter, more violent, less productive, and less healthy than their parents who were sharecroppers.
And, when Mr. Walker died in 1964, he owned a house and 90 acres of land, free and clear. No debt.
Best I could tell, none of his 35 grandchildren ever accumulated a thing in their entire lives.
