re: Why did they stop making cars with T-tops?

Good points made by both of you. Just to add, when the first year C3's (68) came out, there were issues with the frame flex, some induced with the high torque output, some by road conditions. There were reports of some cars t-tops damaged when lifted by frame jacks/lifts. An engineering order was developed in late production that added gussets to the frame and birdcage areas. All 69's and later had this feature incorporated during manufacture. Yet even today, my service center always unlatches the tops before they lift it as a precaution. As you mentioned, this is not an issue with later generation vettes as their frames are significantly stronger, lighter and better engineered.

Jeep Wrangler still has T-Tops. They are a PITA, compared to a sunroof

You could also get a pretty badass sunburn driving from NOLA to the Gulf Coadt, despite drinking beer the whole way.

I wouldn't be alive if it weren't from someone trying to steal my dad's t-tops. It's how he met my mom in a much longer story.

I had that second one.

Grand national was a awesome car. Seen plenty of them with t-tops. A odd fact, even though it was a bigger car it was the fastest stock production car in the quarter mile for a number of years.

Did you happen to see the '87 GNX go for 150k at the latest Barrett?
My dad had one and it was a fricking beast.....until the turbo got to heated up. The turbo cooler was a must.
ETA: my old man's did NOT have t-tops

It's two screws and 6 latches. Very easy. The back part without a hoist, now that is a pain in the arse.

right, but them you have to find a place to store them, and the back...whereas the T-Tops on your old Firebird TransAm could just go in the trunk.
