Why did masks disappear in wrestling?

Assassin's, Mr. Wrestling, etc. There some real acts that always used masks, not some guy banned who would wear one for a few weeks.

Masks are mostly a Mexican thing. They see it as part of their character. Americans prefer real people.

i used to get terrified when someone would try to take off mr. wrestling's mask. like scared to death. all 3 of them were my favorites. their masks were my favorite thing about wrestling

The years of my youth that I got into wrestling were some good years in the BR area. The Big Cat Ernie Ladd and The Assassin were two of my favs. Both villains.
