Real answer is inventories and lingering effects from Harvey + demand.

ETA:

Inventories are higher than normal, but they're down significantly since their 5 year peak in February.

quote:

Dan McTeague, a senior petroleum market analyst with the price-tracking site GasBuddy.com, said gasoline inventories are at their lowest levels since 2014, partly because of the lingering effects of Hurricane Harvey.

quote:

Harvey shut down 25 percent of U.S. gasoline production when it knocked out refineries in Texas. The refineries came back online in a few weeks, but McTeague said the storm delayed maintenance that usually takes place in early September until October. Refineries must shut down during the maintenance, reducing production.

Also cutting into inventories is a strengthening economy that is raising demand for gasoline, McTeague said.

"America is selling a lot more gasoline and diesel products," he said.

Futures contracts expire Dec 1.
I expect oil to hit $60-$65 soon.
