Again, Marines reinforcing to themselves they are'special'
After 241 years of bearing the brunt of every military operation this country has been involved in, I think we got it figured out

Great, you just got your whole squad wiped out, failed to carry out your mission, and left your parent unit still needing to carry out your mission. But hey, at least you died looking brave. I'm sure they'll make a movie about it.

Well the Marines don't give infantry squads the mission of running away from the enemy do I didn't fail.

Thank you for proving why the Marines will never be the primary war fighting ground force of the US.

Last place in the tanker competition.......

The Marines are essential to the survival of the United States.
They keep meatheaded knuckledraggers from becoming meth dealers fulltime by putting a M4 in their hands.
Think of the trailer park carnage that would occur if the corps were not an option for these individuals.

This pretty much sums it all up.

It's not like they were ever meant to be the primary ground fight force. Just the better one.

1. My time ended in the 90's
2. Guess who spent their last year on active duty at the Armor School training both Army & Marine recruit tankers?
HINT
(Yes, that's right, it's army instructors who train Marine tankers.)

So Marine tankers suck too?

Back then? No.
Now? Now, I'd say yeah, they probably suck too.

We prefer the term "High speed projectile interceptor"

We called them speed bumps. Course we called all non-tankers speed bumps.

You want to know the difference between the Army and the Marine Corps? Aggressiveness. The Marine mindset and culture is just more aggressive than the Army. I never practiced a break contact drill in the Marines, not once. I don't think it's even in the Marine Infantry Manual. I've done it a lot since I joined the army. We actually practice running away.
Corps historically was to make shore landings against defended territory. This mission placed a premium on fire power over maneuver. Breaking contact with nowhere to re-establish the fight in better terrain was not possible.
On the other hand, the Army places a higher value on maneuver given its mission usually involves much battles over larger geographic areas.

Bingo. You can't win a war with the mindset of never going on the defensive or falling back. This guy proved what happens when you try...

Just the expeditionary one.
They were our quick response, brush fire force. Our armed diplomacy as we rose to being a superpower. With a large standing Navy (wow - that concept comes back up) they could travel the world serving as an armed "arbiter" when our Nation's interests were threatened.

Some quotes by US Army generals on the USMC
quote:
The safest place in Korea was right behind a platoon of Marines. Lord, how they could fight! [MGen. Frank E. Lowe, USA; Korea, 26 January
quote:
Why in hell can't the Army do it if the Marines can. They are the same kind of men; why can't they be like Marines. [Gen. John J. "Black Jack" Pershing, USA; 12 February 1918]
quote:
I have just returned from visiting the Marines at the front, and there is not a finer fighting organization in the world! [Gen. Douglas MacArthur, USA; Korea, 21 September 1950]
quote:
We have two companies of Marines running rampant all over the northern half of this island, and three Army regiments pinned down in the southwestern corner, doing nothing. What the hell is going on? [Gen. John W. Vessey Jr., USA, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; during the assault on Grenada, 1983]
