Great. I couldn't care less. We do that, too.

You were the Navy. The infantry arm of it but the Navy nonetheless.

The USMC is a fine service, but every time I deploy with them, you can tell the chip on their shoulder is almost overbearing.

I guess when they realize the Army is the core of any DOD operation, and isn't going to sit around all day telling them how 'special' they are, they kind of feel lost

But at the end of the day, I love 'em. Part of what makes America great.

I was in the Marines for 15 years. I'm in the guard now. I wear my 1st MARDIV combat patch on my army uniform(army guys get a patch for everything). I don't think I'm technically supposed to but nobody tells me shite.

Actually, I doubt it. They didn't like to be away from their guys, they liked to be up there with em at all times.

They hated staff officers and in a war of that size and magnitude you really need a staff to bring everything together

Neither one cared for the logistical sides of things.

It's part of why they were and are so revered still by the branches. They wanted to be with the guys doing the fighting.

That's the truth, did you know, back in the late 70s, we got a medal for qualifying with a grenade?
I guess, if you threw that bitch far enough, and didn't kill yourself or any friendlies, you were an expert.
No shite man. You got a medal that went right beside your rifle badge.

Respectfully, I don't think either of these things are true of George S. Patton, Jr. I can't say for Chesty Puller.

But, Patton greatly valued staff work, developed extremely loyal staff officers during the war and revamped logistics with the revolutionary Red Ball Express.

Poor grammar and an expletive thrown in for good measure? Yeah...now I know you were a Marine.

Puller hated staff officers because he was never selected to be one or to go to a staff school like War College or whatever they called it back in the day. He tried to go a bunch and they never let him so he had a huge chip on his shoulder. He didn't get much respect early in his career because he just missed WWI. He made his bones in Haiti. He was sent as a Marine Corporal but was given a commission as an officer in the Haitian Gendermare(sp?). He eventually earned his Marine Commission and of course went on to be a total badass.

Everything you cite happened after that.
You need to understand your history. Slow promotions in peacetime were the norm for the military even up until the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Again, read history. It will help you if you let it.

ETA: If I followed the thread correctly, you and GeauxxxTigers23 know each other IRL. If so, then let him clue you in. I kind of know what I am talking about.

Yeah I read it. I think you can only wear it if you were in the army but were attached to a Marine unit while deployed. But my XO and a few other guys I've seen wear them so whatever. If they tell me to take it off I'll take it off. I only have it on my ACUs. I didn't bother seeing one on to my dress uniforms.

It's a metal pin for the ASU, not a patch.

That's because you are entitled to wear it.
