I heard the Prius has a larger carbon footprint than most regular cars due to their battery production.

So, not that environmentally friendly if true.

We have had this before and you have to drive 120 and you get the best gas mileage

Because you aren't an a-hole and care about the environment. Also, much wiser decision financially for cost of vehicle and gas mileage. Most of my southern friends hardly ever use the beds of their big arse, gas guzzling trucks. It would be too detrimental to their man status to drive anything else however

This is almost as dumb as mj2's mph thread. At 80mph, our Prius still gets over 45mpg.

If I need a truck, I rent one for $20 from uHaul for the day as to not burden anyone. I save that money in a week on gas mileage and I don't even drive a Prius

Had a Prius as a rental while my car was in the shop a few months back. I personally hated driving it. But it did better than I expected fuel wise on the interstate. I regularly drive a TDI and get ~45ish MPG. The Prius was up there a lot of the time. Plus it beats my TDI in pure city miles. I just didn't care for the car overall though. And I can still feel slightly manly telling people I drive a diesel.

id you do the math on your payback? You could've saved thousands by getting a Corolla vs. a Prius. So with gas at $1.50 a gallon, it will take a lot of driving to make up the initial costs.

You could save even more by buying a motorcycle. The Prius has more passenger space and cargo space than a Corolla, so it's not really an apt comparison.
