Why are women so materialistic?

Not all women, mind you. My wife is pretty frugal and has simple tastes.
But I am otherwise surrounded by women (at work, at school functions) who more or less demand "things," including jewelry, nice clothes, a luxury car to drive. They want trips to exotic locales. They even expect to be taken out to dinner on Valentines Day. Their husbands/SO's are obviously trained well, but I wonder what they are getting out of this deal. I suspect none of these chicks are putting out very much. And even if they are, it's still probably not worth it.

In the past, they took advantage of the chivalrous expectations placed on men. Nowadays, social media either inflates their ego via admirers or enflames their jealousy seeing what other women get.

anyways the real lesson here is not to set their expectations to high in the beginning of the relationship. DO NOT shower them with gifts. Then they will become numb to it and just expect it.

You're leaving out a lot of stuff. How about shoes, purses, clothes. Spa treatments. Hair and nails. House keepers. Nannys.
