what caused the formation of the supermassive black holes in the first place

Like you said, they could be remnants from early galaxies. Also, the theory of primordial black holes that formed right after the big bang has been proposed. The heat/pressure would have been enough and it could explain how galaxies formed in the beginning.

I'm always surprised that more people don't wonder what Einstein believed in. He was the one blessed from above to be able to comprehend space-time and fully revolutionize the entire world.

From Wikipedia:

Einstein's views about religious belief have been collected from interviews and original writings. He called himself an agnostic, while disassociating himself from the label atheist. He said he believed in the "pantheistic" God of Baruch Spinoza, but not in a personal god, a belief he criticized. Einstein once wrote: "I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but expressed it clearly".

So Einstein wasn't a Jew?

edit: you seem like a likable and knowledgeable guy. I recommend not taking wikipedia as gospel

I'm pretty sure I could dig up plenty of things to refute that, but I'm about to head back to work. I will read the rest of this thread later though.

And it is a very intresting thread, no doubt

Eisenstein was not a believer. When scientists use the word "god," they typically don't mean yahwey.

Einstein believed in God but not the Christian God who sends people to hell if you don't follow him.

A lot of these super geniuses are agnostic, believing in some "unmoved mover" if you will. They realize it is a stretch that in the massive universe, there is a god in the image of man who gets upset when a creature sins.

PBS and NOVA especially is the best. See here for a documentary that you can watch regarding the black hole at the center of the Milky Way.
