So you want to accept everybody and waste a ton of money and time on all the resources it takes to educate medical students? It isn't as simple as read a few books, take a test, become a doctor. They don't want to accept people that won't make it.
It's called tuition money bruh. Mom and Pops pay for it, you get a loan, or you get a scholarship.

I am typically not a conspiracy theorist at all
we not only need more doctors but a new type of practitioner for general practice, to replace family doctors

That's the point. Let in more students. The ones who deserve to be doctors will be. I don't think a low grade in organic chemistry is any indication of a persons ability as a doctor.

Idk about Louisiana, but here in Houston suburbia there have been Urgent Care centers popping up like crazy. Went to one once, received very prompt and effective treatment for pneumonia.

Why would you want to lower the standards and allow someone through the gauntlet that is going to let me die on the table because they dont know what theyre doing.
You take boards. As a result, the standards to become a doc remain the same. Lawyuhs do the same thing; it's called the bar.

It really is going to hurt the Caribbean and foreign grads more than anything.
I expect it to result in only American grads getting the residencies in the future.
I got my spot, so I'm out of the woods.

Most urgent cares are staffed with PA's and NPs though. They have a doctor on staff as well to supervise them....but you likely will see an NP or PA if you go to urgent care nowadays.

The

Oh yeah? You should go tell that to a law school dean. And I'm not comparing apples to oranges.

This is my thoughts exactly. Makes no sense at all. I respect all the docs out there because they work their arse off to make it but why is the threshold so hard to get into school?
well, if there were an excess of doctors, our free market economy would dictate that their income would go down...

This urgent care didnt have a PA (Physical assistant?) but I am assuming the nice black woman who stabbed a giant needle into my arse was a NP (nurse practitioner?).

Forgive me for not knowing the medical terms. I am not in the medical field. :

Yeah I don't think they understand how residencies work.

I just read the match report. Only 50% of internal and family medicine spots were filled by u.s. grads.

You let everyone in, like law schools do, and they are not making $120-$150 just for the office visit.
That being said I don't want the guy operating on me not to be top of the class.
