Wow, I thought the cult of Obama was bad and the derangement syndrome with him......but it's just as bad with Trump. Can't even have a decent exchange about why California sucks , etc. without bringing him into it and the whole conversation going into HIM

It's because politics is the reason some people are critical of California.
I personally think it's the most beautiful state in the country but it wouldn't be where I'd choose to live if I could. The COL in the nicer areas is too high. Salaries are higher but not enough to offset the COL difference for me.
I'd have to rich to consider living there.
And I'd have to get rid of half of my gun collection

IDK. Born and raised in the bay and it's just always been like that. I personally consider the bay to be its own region but no one cares what I think.

I don't have a problem with the California politics end, but it keeps coming back to Trump b.s.
I voted for the guy,but I'm tired of politics essentially being about him.
I hear you, although when you get to places like Chico, it's pretty afordable as is Fresno (kind of a shithole but not quite) Still more expensive than anything comparable in LA or MS or TX
However in both those places your guns would be welcome

They have some fairly restrictive firearm laws by US standards. Many recently passed. I own a few that would be illegal in CA. Maybe more than a few.
I kind of said that in jest though. That probably wouldn't sway me one way or the other but I'd prefer to live in a pro gun state if I had the choice.
The COL and high taxes would be what would keep me away. There are plenty of beautiful states that are cheaper to live in.
