Very nice 16660!
I like star dust dials, this 5513 is so cool. Gilt Bart Simpson star dust dial with a ghosty bezel.
I also like fully ghost bezels
And spider web dials
and tropical dials
The problem with the aged/imperfection dials is they bring such a premium and can be too easily artificially produced. While I love them I won't pay the premium that many command for that reason.

I love my 16800. I got one from the year I was born. Had it 3 years now and it’s solid for being 37 years old.

GMT Pepsi bezel - has it for a few years. Sold it and purchased a Tudor black bay and put the rest in savings

This is my 1972 5513 birth year watch with a semi ghost bezel. The original 9315 band is in the box.

That is a great looking 16800. I like the 16800 and 16660 transitional models because they had the vintage look of the matte dial with the durability of the sapphire crystal. That is what I wear at work a lot of days because of the crystal. But for overall good looks I still prefer the top hats and super dome crystals.

Don't have one but do have a Tissot and a Breitling. Both withstand the test of time.
I do love the Breguet Classique and Vacheron Constatin watches.

I have 5 of them and if you have to ask the value of them then you can't afford it.

Anyone paying attention to my stupid watch trivia in my other 16800 post will recognize this is a Mk 1 dial due to the "normal" curvy S in Submariner.
The older subs being shown are an excellent testimonial to the answer to the OP's question of value. Despite having some years on them they are still doing their job, they have increased in value, tell a story with their Wabi-Sabi and are far cooler in many respects to the newest 6 digit reference Sub Cs. Just like the Porsche 911 the methodical evolutionary design cements the Sub as a now 65-year-old classic design.

What one you got,,,,,is it worth it?
I have a datejust SS/Gold Oyster with black face I bought when I was 26....I am 53 now...
its in great condition...I seldom wear it anymore... I didn't have any business buying one at 26...but I did it...and at 53, I would only buy one if I was really wealthy which I am not.
I've been told they are made to wear daily and it's not good for it to sit..
oh well...
I've read it's worth double what I paid for it, not sure if that's true, no plans to sell it.. I am glad I own one, I wear on special occasions. My son can have it when I am gone

Though sometimes demand will drive the value of the watch up as well. It’s a crap shoot imho as the years roll by.
Get the ones you like and enjoy.

The Tudor watches are a great watch with a lot of history behind them also. That was the first nice watch I ever bought. Still one of my favorites.

Sitting isn't the issue it is sitting without maintenance then running. A watch can sit for 100 years and if properly serviced prior to putting it back in service there will be no ill effects. A mechanical watch movement has wear surfaces that are protected by lubricants. Over a period of time, they dry out and no longer protect the wear surfaces (that time period is longer today with modern synthetic lubricants). It isn't the wearing one just on special occasions that is the issue it is the lack of proper service intervals that cause the problems in the long term.

Three things drive the price stability or appreciation of a Rolex.
1. the intrinsic value of any precious metals in the watch. While a two-tone Rolex doesn't have a lot of gold in it the fact it has any sets a bottom value at any given time.
2. the fact most Rolex many years old look very similar to current Rolex watches helps the older ones maintain value. The fact that Rolex also consistently raises the prices of their watches year after year aids this significantly. A Rolex that sold for $250 fifty years ago probably has an analog in the current Rolex catalog price at near $10,000 and may have a street value several thousand dollars higher.
3. collectible value This is primarily seen in the professional line: Sub/Seadweller, Milgauss, GMT, Explorer, and Daytona. Yachtmasters and Air Kings are in the professional line but don't have the hype of the others. It is hard to guess the Rolex market, it has been considered to be in a bubble for 15 years and a serious one for about 5 but it still keeps rolling along. Every time we see any indication that it is about to pop the next set of auctions seem to show it still on the rise.

Ya'll know me. I've owned almost every watch known to man and I've never owned a Rolex. The appeal just isn't there for me unless it's a classic Daytona or a Submariner. Then again I think I will probably never own one. Or maybe I will. Who really knows. I just always find something more appealing to my taste.

Thanks. I love it and wear it every day.
