WF is nothing like it was originally. I lived 1/2 mile from the very 1st store in Austin. It started out basically as a co-op. You had to purchase a membership card to shop there. Had a pretty eclectic group of members when it started.

I was just there a few days ago. Place is HUGE.

They make more meat, which makes it more affordable, and therefore more people have access to the meat.

A lot of truth in that article, but I can't find caciocavallo, guanciale, or IGT wines anywhere else.

Well, I take that back. CostCo has a good IGT wine right now.

Or sterilization if you are on welfare.

Have you seen a free range 'cage'?

It's essentially the same thing as caged, but the chickens are all in one cage instead of individual cages.

This is a free range cage.

It completely changes the ph of the animal contributing to a host of problems and disease.

Wow. So you really think farmers are feeding their animals a diet that is conducive to a higher mortality rate?

If profit is priority number 1, wouldnt you want to keep your livestock alive?

Any thoughts on the poultry industry? Curious about this

Who said that was the point?

My point is that Whole Foods can pander to whomever they need to if it means being able to provide me with imported products that I crave yet cannot find anywhere else in Birmingham.

Did you miss the fact that the meat is not nearly as nutritious, the animals are far more susceptible to disease, and their ph is totally changed, making them far less heathy. They were designed by God or whoever to eat herbs, not grains, for a reason.

It saddens me that the Musicians for Free Range Chickens didn't make more of an impact

So what exactly is your point? You don't like grain-fed livestock and you don't like free range practices. Do you eat meat?

have you ever seen a flock of chickens in a field?

They all huddle together regardless of whether theres a cage or not. They might use 10% of the space given to them in a situation of being a free range bird

I love when chicken labels say "no additional hormones"

it's federally mandated that no hormones can be added, it doesn't make your product exclusive or anything

Those animals are raised to get big and be slaughtered, they're not worried about their longevity and overall health. Just as a human can eat terrible food and still reach adulthood.

No, but being snobbish about the fact that you've bought into the complete racket that is the organic cage-free movement, lowers your person ranking by 176 XP
