Well they usually have more than just a subdivision sized lot. And it costs a ton to actually build something there. Most everything has to be shipped and it cost a fortune to ship to alaska.

Have a cousin who doesnt have running water. Wife and him shower at University of AK. Parks his car a half mile from his house and 4wheels or snowmobiles the rest of the way. Home is super energy efficient with nice building materials, just no running water. only tanks

You do realize those shows are bull shite right?

They also had a show called "Buying the Bayou". They had a camp featured, near our camp, on one of the shows. My uncle knew the guy and asked why he was selling his camp. He said he wasn't selling it, the producer approached him and asked if they could use it for the show.

There's nothing "real" about them.

How did this make it to page 2 without Roger chiming in?

He is going to be so pissed. He lives for this.

Depends where you live. Outside of the main cities, property is relatively inexpensive.

Juneau at one time was in the top ten most expensive places to live, the recent decade hasn't been kind to us. Its still expensive, just not as much as it used to be. We actually had deflation last year for the first time.

Household goods, groceries, etc...not much of a difference in prices.

Moreso than Anchorage. In fact, Juneau is the epitome of AK except we don't get the below zero temperatures.

I wouldn't want to have a second home anywhere near one of the big cities in alaska. Way too many dopeheads up there that would rob your place blind or use it for a frick shack

Everyone is packing heat here. I have a cabin in Tee Harbor that I visit infrequently and never had an issue. It's on the road system.

Yep, usually on the hillside above town.

Hillside in FBNKS is pretty desirable as it's warmer in winter than the valley floor. Students like them because they are cheap to rent.

AK is similar to CO. There is a lot of raw land, but only a small percentage is privately owned unlike Texas which is basically all privately owned. A quick search for publicly owned land in each state: Texas is 1.9%, CO is 40%, AK is 89.2%.

That leaves 36.5M acres of private land in AK. That’s roughly the size of Iowa or Illinois.

I get that AK is massive and there are not that many people, but the availability of land to purchase isn’t that big.
