People are also letting their hate for Cena cloud their judgment. You HAVE to have him on there since he was the top guy for damn near a decade.
Hogan and Macho Man were also at the top for a similar time frame. Bruno for longer.
I agree Cena deserves to be in the conversation, but you HAVE to start with the guys that were the foundation.
That's Bruno, Hogan, and Macho Man, and then Taker who was around much longer than Cena.
If you want to go one guy from each era I guess you take Macho out (despite my love for Macho Hogan was a slight cut above as much as I hate to admit it) and put in Cena.
But imo Cena does not deserve it over Macho Man.

Surprised nobody has mentioned this guy yet

Hogan, yes. Macho Man? No. Not even close. He wasn't even the top guy when he was champ either time.

Yeah, when the WWWF was just another territory and lived in the shadows of both the AWA (the world's biggest territory before the 80s) and the NWA.

Mach was never the top guy. The same probably applies to Taker.

We're just gonna have to agree to disagree here. Mach was the CM Punk to Cena's Hogan.

Bill Watts would be on there if he'd fired Shawn Michaels in 95 after HBK got his arse beat in Syracuse. Unfortunately, Watts left/got fired/whatever right before that happened.

I fricking loved the Mean Street Posse. Say what you will about Russo but he got over a lot of guys who had no business even being on the show.

I've been a fan since wrestling was on Saturday mornings (w/Mean Gene) at 10am. Always liked Snuka, because nobody at the time was jumping off the top ropes. Now it is a staple. Gotta give him the nod for starting the trend. Cena is prob the merchandise King (based on sales) so thats gotta account for something. The old lady who was in the business for 60 years deserves some cred too (Ma something)
Flair is the man, but he was the competition that drove a divide...
Snuka, Cena, The Rock, Bruno Sam

Snuka could've been "the guy" instead of Hogan until he murdered his GF.
I feel bad for Superstar Billy Graham. He was so influential on both Hogan and Rocky but was already in his 40s when Vince took over from his pops. People begged Vince Sr to keep the belt on him in the late 70s but Backlund was the next chosen one.

If you think Macho was not a top guy, then you are crazy..... the dude was a STUD as far as a character.....

Macho literally had everything you look for. Charismatic, great in ring (one of the best ever), great promos (again one of the best ever), one of the too merch sellers, hard worker, etc.
Who gives a frick if he was THE top guy at the time? Would Cena have been THE top guy during the Hogan era? The Rock? Taker? Stone Cold?
Macho Man was FAR and away number 2 and not that far behind Hogan. And, unlike Hogan and Cena who use the same fricking patterns every match, Macho Man made every match unique. He was a fricking technician when it came to actual matches. And imo the only one who touches Macho on the mic is The Rock.
Speaking of The Rock, he was definitely that generations Macho Man.

I didn't like them. Friend and I almost got into a fight with two of them and test behind the new orleans arena back in 2000.
Right before it happened. Not saying we would have won.

He was the top guy for MAYBE a year or so at most (when Hogan took time off in 88 and 92). He only main-evented WM twice and guess what, Hogan was involved in both.

Savage is one of my Top 3 or 4 all-time favorites, but at this point I'd have to put Cena ahead of him. That being said, if we're talking post-expansion only, I'd say
Hogan
Austin
Rock
Cena
Undertaker would narrowly miss the cut. He just never had the drawing power of those four.

Taker would be on the next tier with guys like Bret and HBK.
