there is a guy out of Lafayette that is making big money on these cameras. He gets permission to set them up on public utility poles. In exchange, he gives the police free looks at the data (license plates).
How does he make money? Insurance companies pay him. I had a case where and insurance company pulled a video to show prior damage to a client's car. While the OT might cheer this on, the client never had a prior accident. Insurance companies are also using this to check your residence status. If you spend time out fo the state, they have readers that will collect data and use it to cancel your policy, saying you materially misrepresented your residency.
the only people the police are catching are normal people. the criminals change their license plates or do not have them at all. We should all rally against this practice.

I have seen several in the towns I frequent. I think they are just a deterrent…mostly due to the blue light that flashes constantly. I don’t have a problem with that, if it actually works.
