I am convinced that some people are more some are more prone than other to catch an STD.
A friend of mine was hurt in the North Sea during the 70’s. The crew of the laybarge it happened on was scattered around the world when it came time to depose everyone.
Him and his lawyer flew around the world for a month to catch up with everyone.
He started at the YabYum Club in Amsterdam, then to Beirut,Hong Kong,Singapore,Malaysia,Brisbane,Sydney,South America,Bahamas then finished in Amsterdam, again.
During this time he tried to bed anything that moved. When they hit Amsterdam the second time the lawyer just left him in the hotel down the street from the YabYum. . He called in his drug and women order every morning fo a month. Screwed every woman at the YabYum,which is more than a few I understand.
All raw,no STD. The old boy doesn’t remember how many times he got laid on that two month tour.

I went and got tested about a year ago and the nurse said they don't even test for herpes anymore. The CDC pretty much has said, everyone has at least one type of the herpes strand so. But, when I went to the hospital for my liver, they actually tested me for herpes and I have it at all so...

A huge chunk of the population has herpes 1. If you've ever had a cold sore or fever blister then you have herpes 1. You can give yourself genital herpes by touching the blister and then touching your genitals, then it becomes herpes 2, which is typically transmitted via sex.
I think even with an outbreak it's a less than 1 in 10 chance you can contract genital through sex. Much less so if there's not an outbreak which can be suppressed with antivirals.
I'm not a doctor and everything I wrote was ripped from Google search.

I don’t think this is entirely accurate. From what I saw, you can have HSV1 infection in the genitals but it doesn’t “become” HSV2. HSV2 is a more serious condition and the outbreaks are more frequent and severe than a HSV1 infection in the genitals

They will certainly test a pregnant woman for it because one of the only harmful things about herpes is if you deliver a baby vaginally while you have an active outbreak...the baby can get really sick. So they have to know if a pregnant woman has herpes to monitor that. If she is having an outbreak and goes into labor they will have to do c section.
Otherwise herpes is pretty common and harmless but still has a stigma attached to it.
Part of my job is reviewing patient charts and reporting if patients have certain STDs and if they were treated, etc. it is mandated by state law that I report this to public health.
Herpes (both type 1 and type 2) was taken off the AZ list of mandated reportable STDs a few years ago because it’s so common now.
