What is past is prologue. We don't need new geniuses, we are mostly unfamiliar with our past as it is... Von Mises,Hayek, Bastiat, Coase , Buchanan et al have paved the road to prosperity so geniuses can thrive and contribute. Sadly geniuses today are creatures of regulatory capture and politics.

In my opinion he doesn't belong in the same realm as Gates, Musk or Hawking.
Maybe he doesn't, but his success is amazing. Not only apple, but he's behind Pixar as well. He was almost assuredly a genius so what makes him less than the others?

Luckily people like von Braun, Oppenheimer and Einstien weren't subjected to politics in their day.

We are about to send the most advanced satellite into outer orbit. It will expand our knowledge more than any point in the past. These guys working on launch, testing, and overall design have to be up there.

I really believe in what Musk is pursuing. Can he pull it off? Probably not. If he does though..... He will be the next Einstein/Tesla.

Tyson is simply an effective communicator. There is nothing special about him in his own field. Just a fantastic salesman for science.

Musk's idea of sending people to Mars will never happen with real human beings. They will send robots with a uploaded human conscious that will make its own decisions. This will happen

A PhD in astrophysics AND a uniquely effective communicator are both indicators of high intelligence. He's almost assuredly a genius. Now whether or not he's THE genius of our time doesn't negate that.

Elon Musk fits the bill. I'm tempted to throw Michio Kaku in there.

He's highly intelligent, sure, but what breakthroughs has he made besides effectively spreading passion for science in the public? I'm not dissing him, we need people like Tyson, but he's no Einstein or Tesla. That's the bar I'm measuring.
