Conquered much of Europe and N Africa, spawned many other empires and pretty much shaped western civilization. Hell, vestiges of the eastern Roman Empire lasted into the 1400s.

China has the longest unbroken lineage of all. Was on par with Rome for advancements, and is still a player today.

The peoples who inhabited Central America are under-rated. Rome > Egypt > China > all the rest, but these guys were interesting.
