Navarre, FL - A local business in Navarre has taken over the failed Touron Trailer Trash RV park on Highway 87 South with residents doing a double-take with its name. "Hookers and Blow" recently opened its doors, promising a one-stop shop for all your fishing gear and...culinary desires?
"We saw a gap in the market," explained owner Roddy "Big Trigger" Johnson , a retired Coast Guardsman, whose weathered face and missing teeth could tell a thousand salty tales. "People come down here to fish off the Navarre Fishing Pier, but then they're left high and dry when it comes to preparing their catch. They offer top-of-the-line tackle and a unique method of 'cooking' your trophy."
Randy’s wife, Grinsel "Naked Snapper" Johnson, man’s the kitchen, ready to school locals and tourists alike on the fine art of old of backwoods Alaska style cleaning and cooking fish with a blowtorch.
Stepping inside Hookers and Blow does little to dispel the initial confusion. Fishing rods and lures share shelf space with rows of shiny blowtorches - apparently the establishment's secret weapon. On a mounted television, a looped video plays on repeat: a man in a stained tank top mans a blowtorch with the practiced ease of a seasoned burger chef, searing sea turtle to a blackened crisp.
"It's all about speed and efficiency," barked Naked Snapper. "Forget fussing with filleting and grilling! Our blowtorch technique locks in the flavor and keeps those pesky tourists from stealing your beach spot while you're slaving over a hot stove."
Local health officials are, unsurprisingly, taking a wait-and-see approach. "While the concept is...unorthodox," admitted Dr. Shelly “STD” Sanderson, "we haven't received any complaints yet. But," she added with a raised eyebrow, "we're keeping a close eye on things."
Customer reaction has been mixed. "It's certainly different," muttered one tourist, clutching a fishing rod and eyeing the blowtorches with suspicion. Another patron, a local tattooed “courier” sporting a "Born to Meth" t-shirt, grinned and slapped Big Trigger on the back. "This is the greatest idea since dime bags! Finally, a way to get dinner on the table without wasting half the day cleaning up afterwards!"
Only time will tell if Hookers and Blow can reel in enough customers to survive the inevitable double-entendres and raised eyebrows. But one thing's for sure: fishing trips to Navarre Beach just got a whole lot more interesting.
