I thought, initially, they were planning on naming fast attacks after cities and boomers after states?

All of the current SSBNs/SSGNs are named after states except the Henry M. Jackson

All of the Los Angeles class fast attacks are named after cities except the Hyman G. Rickover.

Then you had the Seawolf class... and I don't know wtf they were doing with those names: Seawolf, Jimmy Carter, and Connecticut

Then the Virgina class fast attacks are all named after states except the John Warner... and I think they're naming a future one after Rickover (who also had a Los Angeles class named after him).

I don't know who they put in charge of naming shite in the Navy but they're all over the damn place. I wish they would have stuck with naming subs after fish like the WWII-era boats.

I deployed with a 2/11ACR Company under Marine command in Heet, Anbar province fall of 2005. Most exciting time of my life no doubt.

To the USMC for letting Army do whatever the hell we wanted inside their AO.

Fast attacks used to be named after fish...hence the term 'used ta fish'

the original boomers were called the '41 for Freedom' and named after U.S. historical figures...

now, I have no clue what the naming scheme is..
