I lived in SE Alaska for a year and agree 100%. I don't think there was a day go by that I didn't see something that made me stop and just say "holy shite, that's amazing".

Wife and I were both Air Force. I separated last summer, she just got out in March.

Both of us served about 4 years. She was intel, I was logistics.

Don't miss our AFSCs, but glad we seized the opportunity to serve

Thanks to all of y'all who did as well

Alaska is amazing! would love to get back. Elmendorf AFB was great it was like 10% base and the rest wilderness. You could drive the back of the base for miles seeing moose, bears and all sorts of wildlife not to mention mountain streams, lakes etc...Would love to take my family back one day. Another benefit, a couple of my friends and i got on a military hop for ten bucks and flew to hawaii for two weeks and stayed at hickam AFb for two weeks. The whole trip with rental car cost us like 300 bucks each. How many can say they went to hawaii for two weeks and it cost 300 bucks total
