One man was arrested after shots were fired in the 9200 block of Highland Road on Monday night, according to Baton Rouge police and arrest records.

Michael Howard Anderson, 39, was arrested on counts of illegal use of a weapon, false imprisonment with a dangerous weapon, and aggravated assault with a firearm.

Baton Rouge police responded to an initial report of a “subject armed with a firearm,” according to an arrest report. When officers entered the residence, they found Anderson holding a male victim inside a room and not allowing him to leave, the arrest report said.

Officers told Anderson to drop his weapon, and he allegedly discharged the gun into the ceiling.

After about an hour, Anderson surrendered and was taken into custody. Police said he appeared to be “very intoxicated.”

Police were told that before officers arrived, Anderson had fired the gun out of the rear window of the house, into the ceiling and into a mirror. Police said because there are other residences behind the property, Anderson had “endangered the residents of that neighborhood.”

No one was injured in the shooting, but roads around the area were blocked off temporarily for safety precautions, Baton Rouge Police spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola said on Monday night.

Anderson, 9283 Highland Road, was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
