Yea in a down oilfield economy, hotshot driving is not profitable either.

With fall outages and turnarounds we are seeing anywhere from 3-7 hot shot drivers in a day and we are a relatively small shop. Just saying it is hard to believe Uber is the most efficient use of the equipment he has on hand. If he is driving for Uber out of convenience he could probably do better parking the 350 and leasing a Kia. He has access to equipment that could generate a premium rate yet he is choosing to operate under a model that pays less and costs more out of his pocket. Unless you consider my original statement that his vehicle and/or fuel is being paid by someone else it is a stupid decision to run that truck for Uber.

Without knowing his schedule or situation, all I can do is applaud the guy for working. Having said that he'd probably make more delivering pizzas in it.

Delivering critical time sensitive components that have a million dollar production unit shutdown pays much better then driving around drunk idiots all night.

Or he could be hustling and doing both

Well, if he is driving 100 mph everywhere he goes he will actually use less gas than some uber fig driving around in a Prius at normal speed.

Maybe someone's wife making an extra buck? Don't see how it's cost efficient, though unless there's some tax reasons. Can you claim a loss from something like that?

truck uber would be useful if I needed to haul something/move/pick up a few yards of mulch. Would probably be more profitable in NYC or DC than in south Louisiana.

Somebody I was talking to a few weeks ago pitched this idea. Great idea for urban areas
