I use the highest level of Claude and it is already better than a paralegal or assistant. I can have it review records that a paralegal or assistant would take a day + to review and record. Luckily I do not bill anymore. It will be a bleak future for a lot of young lawyers and staff.

I have an ethics presentation about that I'm going to give later this year hopefully. Just waiting to hear back from the local bar association.

We have internal AI systems that are good through litify. Helps a lot culling down medicals

That’s what I’m thinking. I know many who are glad they are aging out before AI could cause job loss or whatever. People need jobs and legal field pays staff well. Back in the day only the cream of the crop made it into law firms. Now, not so much, but still pays well. Firms will still need staff and associates, but less of them is my guess.

I don't do PI work much anymore but AI is bang-on with medical records in my limited experience.
I haven't done a big business case with accounting/records but I imagine that it absolutely crushes at at. If you can get the source files and not just the PDFs I can only imagine what it could do.
While there are issues with the AI outputs that generate new content, the analytical forms of AI are pretty dialed in these days. I've been using Notebook LM for over a year now and where it, Claude, etc. are now is just crazy

There is still a lot of room for the clerical work of setting appointments, processing invoices, setting up experts, navigating court systems, client facing positions, etc. But there is no need for firms to pay for paralegals or summer law clerks to review deposition transcripts or business records.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens when corporate America catches up with law firms on AI work/billing. When your clients have access to the latest ai and know how long something takes, the billable hour is going to die.
